Il Rapporto 2024 del Lancet Countdown: tracking progress on health and climate change evidenzia come le persone di tutto il mondo stanno affrontando minacce senza precedenti al loro benessere, alla loro salute e alla loro sopravvivenza a causa del rapido cambiamento climatico e nel ritardo nelle azioni di contrasto. Nel 2023 la temperatura superficiale media globale annua ha battuto tutti i record, raggiungendo 1.45°C in più rispetto all’ epoca preindustriale. Tra il 1961-90 e il 2014-23, nel 61% della superficie terrestre vi è stato un aumento del numero di giorni di precipitazioni estreme e nel 2023 il 48 % della superficie terrestre mondiale è stato colpito da almeno 1 mese di siccità estrema. I rischi per la salute che le persone devono affrontare sono stati esacerbati da anni di ritardi nell’ attivazione di strategie di adattamento. Dato che la carenza di risorse finanziarie costituisce un ostacolo fondamentale per affrontare i cambiamenti climatici, è necessaria e urgente una rapida crescita degli investimenti in tale direzione.

The Lancet Countdown 2024: Tracking Progress on Health and Climate Change highlights how people around the world are facing unprecedented threats to their well-being, health, and survival due to rapid climate change and a delay in responding. In 2023, the annual global mean surface temperature broke all records, reaching 1.45°C above pre-industrial levels. Between 1961–1990 and 2014–23, 61% of the world’ s land surface experienced an increase in the number of extreme precipitation days, and 48% of the world’s land surface experienced at least 1 month of extreme drought in 2023. Years of delays in adapting to climate change have exacerbated the health risks people face. Financial constraints are a key obstacle to addressing climate change, necessitating an urgent scale-up of investment.
